Lucien Agoumé has confirmed he turned down a major transfer offer this summer to stay at Sevilla. The Franco-Cameroonian midfielder, a starter in all seven league games, dismissed a proposal worth around €30 million from an Arab club.

Agoumé explained the decision was not a hard one. "It wasn't such a complicated decision." the player said in an interview. His plan was always to remain at the Andalusian club, with whom he is under contract until 2028 after being acquired in two four-million-euro installments for 90% of his rights.

The 24-year-old has found the continuity he craved under manager Luis García Plaza. Agoumé feels his performance has improved compared to previous seasons, where despite feeling capable, he was overlooked. His focus is now on the team, which sits fifth in La Liga with 13 points, and on enjoying his daily work with his teammates at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

Rumours of possible interest from the Premier League do not faze him. His commitment to the Nervión side is complete. "My idea was to stay here. I am very happy with the decision I made and to continue together with Sevilla," stated Agoumé. The player wants to be part of the medium-term project, contributing from the centre of the park.

His next opportunity comes this weekend when Sevilla visit 17th-placed Levante in the eighth matchday. The team looks to bounce back from the recent home defeat to Aston Villa and stays in the upper half of the standings. Fans can check the full season schedule on our fixtures page. With Agoumé determined to stay, Sevilla has a fundamental pillar for the challenges ahead.
