Sevilla has started working on configuring its squad for the 2026-27 season, without ruling out the possibility of the club changing hands to other interested parties. While that issue is not resolved, in Nervión they are thinking about the next course. First, with the appointment of José Ignacio Navarro as new sports director. And then, with the new signings, with a first name already on the way to the club: Jon Guridi. The 31-year-old Guipuzcoan midfielder must become a new addition to the Sevilla squad in the near future, as MARCA has been able to learn. It would be an express request from his coach, Luis García Plaza, who knows him from his previous stint at Deportivo Alavés, a club with which Guridi will end his contract on June 30, after four seasons in Mendizorroza, and with which he has decided not to renew, so he will arrive at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán with a free agent card. The Guipuzcoan midfielder has accumulated 148 games (7 goals and 8 assists) in albiazul. He landed in Mendizorroza in 2022 in Segunda División and, since then, he was key in the ascension (2023) and in the three permanences in the top category achieved by the vitorianos. Guridi was one of the few survivors of the last stage of Alavés in Segunda División. García Plaza turned him into a key piece in the babazorro scheme playing as a double pivot in the medullary or as a midfielder linking with the striker, behind the '9'. In the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, the two complete seasons of the Madrid coach in Alavés, he played 44 and 37 games, respectively, in all competitions. One of the most beloved players by the Mendizorroza fans will change air this summer after rejecting the offer of a one-year renewal with Alavés. José Ignacio Navarro takes his first steps attending to the requests of the Madrid coach. Sevilla, given its economic situation and without the arrival of investors, is currently scouring the market for players who are ending their contracts. Like the youth team, they are prioritized at the time of forming the squad for the 2026-2027 season.
