Sevilla FC concluded their summer transfer window with three signings on deadline day, headlined by the surprise arrival of midfielder Youssouf Fofana. Sporting director José Ignacio Navarro confirmed the moves, which bring the squad to 24 players for the season. Managed by Luis García Plaza, the team prepares for their next fixture away at Espanyol on September 6th.
The new arrivals on Tuesday were forwards Lucas Stassin and Félix Correia, who became the ninth and tenth signings of the summer. Both players arrived in Seville on Monday after finalising their moves from Saint-Etienne and Lille respectively. The most notable deal, however, was the loan without a purchase option for 27-year-old French international Youssouf Fofana from Olympique Lyon. Navarro stated: "El mercado de fichajes veraniego para el Sevilla FC acabó con sorpresa de última hora." Fofana thus became the eleventh and final addition of the window.
The Sevilla board worked until the last minute to offload several players, but without success. Attempts were made to sell Rubén Vargas and Marcao, but no buyers were found. Fabio Cardoso, initially considered surplus, ultimately stayed with the squad. Academy graduate Manu Bueno, who was allowed to seek a move, remains in the first team with a contract and squad number. The club also sought a midfielder, considering options like LASK Linz's Melayro Bogarde, but no deal materialised. The result was no departures on the final day of the window.
With the eleven new arrivals, Sevilla now have a 24-player squad with one vacant spot until the January window reopens. The full list includes Vlachodimos, Fran González, Kike Salas, Sangante, Castrín, Marcao, Cardoso, Suazo, Julio Díaz, Carmona, Juan Iglesias, Agoumé, Kochorashvili, Guridi, Manu Bueno, Fofana, Rubén Vargas, Correia, Ejuke, Alfon, Peque, Stassin, Robbie Ure, and Isaac Romero.
Sevilla started the La Liga season with two wins and one loss. Their goal tally stands at six scored and five conceded, giving them a plus-one goal difference. The next challenge is an away match against Espanyol on September 6th. The team travels to Cornellà-El Prat with their squad now settled after a busy market.
