Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico was the victim of a violent robbery at his home in Bollullos de la Mitación on Monday night. Five masked individuals broke into the property while the player was having dinner with his family, according to sources close to the club. The team currently sits sixth in La Liga with 14 points from four wins, two draws and three losses, and finds itself 13 points behind leaders Barcelona.
The incident occurred with the security alarm deactivated. The attackers, who initial investigations suggest are not Spanish nationals and may belong to an organised gang, stole jewellery, watches and cash. Rico's wife, Alba Silva, their two children, his mother-in-law and a domestic worker were present in the house. Fortunately, no physical injuries were reported.
This event highlights security concerns for footballers living in the area, recalling a similar case involving Real Betis player Antony during a Champions League match. When asked about the incident, Patricia Pardo simply said: "Vamos a ver".
Sevilla, currently sixth in La Liga with 14 points from nine games, has not made an official statement on the matter. The team comes into this episode following a heavy 4-1 defeat at the Santiago Bernabéu against Real Madrid on 18 October, a result that is part of an inconsistent run of one win, one draw and three defeats in their last five outings. In that loss to Madrid, the sole Sevilla goal was scored by Manuel Bueno Sebastián. This season, the side has scored 14 goals and conceded 16.
The squad now prepares to host Osasuna, who are tenth in the table, on 26 October at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, a key match to turn their form around. The goalkeeper, whose career includes a spell at Paris Saint-Germain, is physically unharmed following the event.

Sergio Rico and his wife, Alba Silva, denied that the thieves physically assaulted them during the robbery, as they confirmed in an interview on Telecinco. The couple has already filed a complaint at the Civil Guard headquarters in Sanlúcar la Mayor, the club reported. Authorities recommended Silva not speak to the press while the investigation remains open.
