Sevilla FC lost 4-1 to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu, a result that leaves the Andalusian side sixth in the table with 14 points. The defeat, on the ninth matchday of LaLiga EA Sports, prevented Sevilla from closing the gap on Madrid and was overshadowed by controversy over refereeing decisions. The team now trails league leaders Barcelona by 13 points.

Analyst Pablo Planas noted that "Sevilla left the Santiago Bernabéu very angry, not just because of the defeat, but because they were clearly disadvantaged by several refereeing decisions that were key to the development of the match already in the first half." Those incidents shaped a game in which the hosts were more clinical.

Arda Güler opened the scoring for Madrid in the 30th minute, assisted by Yan Diomande. Kylian Mbappé extended the lead seven minutes later, before completing his brace from the penalty spot after the hour mark. Sevilla pulled a goal back through Manuel Bueno Sebastián with ten minutes remaining, but Diomande sealed the home side's rout just two minutes later.

With this setback, Sevilla have taken 14 points from a possible 27, from four wins, two draws and three defeats. Their goal difference stands at 14 scored and 16 conceded. The team is on a difficult run of form from their last five matches, with just one win, one draw and three losses. The defeat in Madrid follows a 3-3 draw against Levante and a 1-3 loss to Aston Villa in European competition. In the match against Levante, Sevilla's goals came from Robbie Ure, Felix Correia and Isaac Romero.

Sevilla's focus now turns to their next league fixture, at home to Osasuna on Sunday, 26 October. The Navarrese side currently sit tenth in the standings. Prior to the trip to Madrid, Sevilla had beaten Valencia 1-0 and Deportivo La Coruna 0-1, but also suffered a 1-3 home defeat to Barcelona.
