Javier Tebas, the president of LaLiga, praised the financial effort made by Sevilla FC during the summer transfer window. The Sevilla club is starting the 2026-27 season with the lowest wage limit of the 20 top-flight clubs, set at 20.16 million euros.
What Tebas said about Sevilla's effort
The LaLiga president referred to the work carried out by the Sevilla club to bring its finances in line with financial fair play rules. "I would highlight the effort Sevilla FC is making," said Tebas. The club has had to restructure much of its squad to meet the cap imposed by LaLiga.
How Sevilla cut its squad costs
Sevilla has carried out 28 operations this summer, 17 of them departures, and has lowered its real squad cost to 72 million euros, 13 million less than last season. To achieve that, the club spent more than 20 million euros on contract terminations and compensation for players including Joan Jordán, Rafa Mir, Tanguy Nianzou, Fede Gattoni and Adriá Pedrosa. Those exits, combined with more than a dozen incoming signings, have freed roughly 11 million euros within the wage limit and left the squad's actual value at around 50 million euros.
How LaLiga assesses Sevilla's finances
Javier Gómez, LaLiga's director general corporativo, assessed the club's financial direction. "The 26-27 season is going to be very close to balance, to not having losses," Gómez explained. Sevilla has accumulated 140 million euros in losses from previous seasons, and the club is not competing in Europe this season, which also reduces expected revenue.
What lies ahead for Sevilla in the coming fixtures
On the pitch, Sevilla sit sixth in La Liga on 7 points from four games, with two wins, one draw and one defeat, and a recent form of DLWW. The team has scored 7 goals and conceded 6, for a +1 goal difference, and sits 5 points behind leaders Barcelona. Rubén Vargas remains sidelined and is out of the squad. The next fixture comes on 16 September 2026 away against Deportivo La Coruna, currently fifth in the table. The coach must also decide who fills the roles freed up in the squad.
