Season start
Sevilla FC has begun the season with two victories in its first two matches. The team, led by Luis García Plaza, has had a flawless start, yet the coach continues to point out the need for more forwards while the transfer window remains open. García Plaza has stressed that competing with only 16 first-team players, as happened in Bilbao, is a luxury they cannot afford.
Isaac and Ejuke’s reactions
In the match against Rayo, the comeback was forged in the second half, while at San Mamés Sevilla made its dominance clear after the dressing-room walk-through. García Plaza tried to prevent the team from being reduced to eleven players by removing the cautioned substitutes. In that context, Isaac Romero and Nigerian Ejuke responded strongly.
The academy player Isaac lost the starting spot when the coach opted for Robbie Ure, but he answered with an accurate second half. After a solid recovery by Oso in the 50th minute, a precise move by Isaac set up Ejuke to score a volley-style goal against Unai Simón’s exit. Ejuke delivered one of the pure technical skills plays that define him, after having been close to leaving during the summer transfer market.
Soon after, Isaac capitalised on Areso’s error and fired a powerful shot at Unai Simón, making it 0-3. Isaac wears number 16 and his first goal unlocks a goal tally that had been stagnant since the derby on March 1.
Transfer prospects
Sevilla is ready to strengthen its attack before the summer transfer window closes. During the summer Alexis Sánchez, Akor Adams and Maupay left, and only Robbie Ure has arrived. Isaac Romero knows that, following José Ignacio Navarro’s roadmap, competition will increase and he wants to be important in the squad.
García Plaza has shown his intention to line up two strikers, as he did in the second half in Bilbao, but he still demands at least one more player for that position. Regarding the Nigerian, the coach said that if he commits, he has a one-on-one that very few people have in the top division.
Miguel Sierra has been in the starting XI in the first two matches, causing a penalty against Rayo and a sending-off in Bilbao. Ejuke, on the other hand, has raised his hand so that, if he remains in the squad, García Plaza has reasons to trust him.
Ejuke’s goal was a volley-style strike that flew to the upper right corner of the goal.
