Sevilla lost the Antonio Puerta Trophy on Friday after a 1-3 defeat to Aston Villa at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium. The team managed by Unai Emery, who was honoured before the match, came from behind after Isaac Romero had put the hosts ahead early in the second half.

The friendly fixture marked Sevilla's first loss in this annual tournament in seven years. Emery, who had already won the trophy twice as Sevilla's manager, claimed his third title in charge of the English side. "Isaac's goal at the start of the second half was not enough to overcome Emery's team, which turned the game around with goals from Barkley, Garnacho and Jenner," according to the match report.

The first half was disrupted by a significant blow for Sevilla. Defender Marcao had to be replaced in the 26th minute by Juan Iglesias due to injury. After the break, both managers made numerous substitutions. The equaliser came in the 71st minute from Ross Barkley, who had entered the pitch at the start of the second period. Alejandro Garnacho, eight minutes later, and Morgan Jenner, in the 83rd, completed the English comeback.

This friendly result comes as Sevilla sit fifth in La Liga with 13 points from seven games. The team now turns its attention back to official competition with a trip to face Levante on October 12. Levante currently occupy 17th place in the table.
