Sevilla face their trip to Real Madrid this Sunday dealing with an injury crisis in midfield and attack. Central midfielder Jon Guridi will definitely miss out with a left adductor injury that will keep him sidelined for two to three weeks, the club confirmed.
The team completed their second weekly session on Wednesday at the training ground, a workout Guridi missed as he began his rehabilitation. Giorgi Kochorashvili also could not train with the group, doing specific gym work due to an overload. Although the club hopes the Georgian can return during the week, his availability for the Bernabéu remains in doubt.
The list of absentees is completed by Iker Muñoz, Marcao and full-back Miguel Sierra, the latter with a dislocated shoulder that will keep him out for several months. On a positive note, forward Lucas Stassin completed his second consecutive normal session and is now the main attacking alternative with Isaac Romero suspended.
Attacking shortages
Romero is serving a ban for the red card he received while celebrating his goal in the 3-3 draw at Levante last weekend. With Sierra out long-term, Stassin's return is a boost for an attack that had been reduced to Robbie Ure as the only pure option. The Belgian, who scored and assisted in Valencia, could have company in Madrid.
Manager Luis García Plaza was forced to fill out the session with several Sevilla Atlético players: Jorge Moreno, Nico Guillén, Manuel Ángel and Ibra Sow. The coaching staff have three more training sessions this week to finalise the lineup to face the fourth-placed side. The squad will travel to the capital on Friday, after García Plaza holds his pre-match press conference.
Sevilla go into this ninth LaLiga EA Sports matchday in fifth place, with 14 points from eight games. The team needs a good result at the Bernabéu to stay in the upper reaches of the table, especially after the latest stumble in Valencia.
The last time the sides met, in April, it ended in a Madrid victory. Guridi, who had made eight appearances this season (five as a starter), will be a significant loss in midfield, where he had grown in importance alongside Lucien Agoumé and Youssouf Fofana. The Basque midfielder has completed 90% of his passes in his own half this season, a key stat you can explore in our stats section. The coming sessions will determine the final status of Kochorashvili and Stassin's readiness for a demanding fixture.
