Sevilla FC were involved in one of the craziest matches of the season, drawing 3-3 at Levante after throwing away a two-goal lead. A stoppage-time frenzy featuring three goals and a red card denied García Plaza's side a victory that seemed certain and would have boosted their push for the Champions League places.
The point leaves Sevilla fifth in LaLiga EA Sports with 14 points from eight games, ten behind leaders Barcelona. The team now faces a trip to the Santiago Bernabéu to take on fourth-placed Real Madrid next Sunday at 21:00 CEST.
A dream start
Robbie Ure opened the scoring in the 13th minute with his first official goal for the club. The forward rounded goalkeeper Mat Ryan and finished calmly to make it 0-1. "He opened the scoring with his first for the Club, rounding Levante goalkeeper Mat Ryan and keeping his composure to finish calmly," Ure said. Before the break, Youssouf Fofana had a great chance to double the lead after a surge from his own half, but Ryan intervened again.
The second half began with more home pressure. In the 54th minute, Félix Correia finished a cross from Ure to score the second, though referee Adrián Cordero Vega initially disallowed it for offside. A VAR review overturned the decision and awarded the goal. The joy was short-lived. Just three minutes later, Iván Romero pulled one back for Levante after a pass from Roger Brugué, igniting the Ciutat de València.
The craziest stoppage time
Goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos had to make several saves to preserve the lead, denying Romero and Brugué. However, in the 92nd minute, Adrián Dela equalised with a powerful strike from outside the box. Sevilla's response was immediate. In the 95th, substitute Isaac Romero restored his side's lead following a pass from Fofana. His celebration proved costly, as he received a second yellow card and was sent off.
Down to ten men and in the dying seconds, Levante found the final equaliser. In the 100th minute of the match, Ifeanyi Ndukwe pounced on a loose ball in the area to seal the 3-3 draw, leaving Sevilla with the feeling of two points dropped. Luis Castro's team, who were flirting with the relegation zone, snatched a point at the death.
The match marked Sevilla's return to competition after 23 days without an official game, a break that may have affected their late concentration. With the squad already focused on the next challenge, the team travels to Madrid for a high-voltage clash. The latest squad news and injury updates are available in our injuries section.
