Sevilla FC will play at Riazor for the first time in eight years when they travel to face Deportivo La Coruna on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, in the sixth round of LaLiga. The club arrives on the back of a 1-0 win over Valencia last Friday, their third victory of the season.
The 2018 precedent
Sevilla's last LaLiga visit to Riazor came in April 2018, in matchday 33, when Vincenzo Montella's side drew 0-0 with Deportivo. That lineup featured David Soria, Jesus Navas, Mercado, Carriço, Layun, Geis, Pizarro, Banega, Sandro, Correa and Carlos Fernandez, with Sarabia, Nolito and Muriel coming off the bench, as ABC Deportes recorded at the time. Deportivo were relegated to the second division at the end of that 2017-18 campaign and only returned to LaLiga this past May.
Sevilla did return to Riazor once since then, in 2019, though only in the Copa del Rey against Bergantinos. That tie, played on a heavily rainy night, ended in a Sevilla win thanks to a goal from Kounde.
Aubameyang powers Deportivo's return
Antonio Hidalgo's Deportivo have made a solid start back in the top flight, beating Valencia at home and Villarreal away, while drawing with Elche at Riazor and Malaga at La Rosaleda. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored five goals and added two assists in the opening rounds, and found the net again in a 1-1 draw against Getafe last Sunday.
Sevilla sit fourth in La Liga with 10 points from five games, three wins, one draw and one defeat, only two points behind leaders Barcelona. Juan Antonio Iglesias Sanchez's 81st minute goal, assisted by Giorgi Kochorashvili, settled the win over Valencia and lifted the team's tally to 8 goals scored and 6 conceded this season. The club will be without Arouna Sangante and Ruben Vargas for the trip, both still working their way back, while the rest of the squad can be checked on the squad page. The standings confirm Deportivo currently sit sixth ahead of kickoff, and the full calendar is available on the fixtures page.
