Nico Guillén has answered the call from Sevilla head coach García Plaza by scoring a decisive brace for Sevilla Atlético in their win over Marbella. The young academy product, who started the season with the first team on the opening La Liga matchday, proved his worth with the reserves, who have now won two consecutive games in Segunda RFEF.

García Plaza, who previously coached Guillén at the B team, recently expressed his full confidence in the player. "I have great confidence in him. Whenever I call him up, it's so he can start or participate," the coach explained. He added that he does not want to rush his development in a harmful way, emphasising that competing with Sevilla Atlético is the path for him to maintain the necessary competitive rhythm. The coach wants Guillén to accumulate goal minutes, an objective the player is fulfilling with his involvement for the B team.

A path to maturity

For Guillén, this step down to the reserves is not seen as a setback, but as an opportunity to accumulate minutes, points, and mature both physically and in sporting terms. His return comes at a time when the arrival of reinforcements like Kochorashvili and Fofana during preseason had reduced his chances of minutes in the first-team midfield. Meanwhile, other youngsters like Miguel Sierra have kept their place in García Plaza's starting eleven.

The coach has been clear about his philosophy with the youth academy. "They have shown they can help us. The season is very long and there are many situations. They are exceptional lads," he stated, making it clear he will play whoever he believes is suitable regardless of age or origin.

First-team context

This news comes as Sevilla FC sit sixth in LaLiga with 10 points, after a start of five games with three wins, one draw, and one defeat. The team has taken seven points from the last nine available, showing good recent form. Their last result was a 1-0 win over Valencia, with a goal from Juan Antonio Iglesias Sánchez. The team now faces its next league fixture away to Deportivo La Coruna, who are seventh in the table.

With this performance, Nico Guillén not only helps his team in Segunda RFEF, but keeps alive his option to be a useful piece for García Plaza throughout a season that promises to be long and demanding. The player is under contract with the club until June 2028.
