Sevilla FC is seriously considering moving its matches to the La Cartuja stadium during renovation works at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Club president José María Del Nido Carrasco has explained this is the preferred option, although formal consultation with the Junta de Andalucía has not yet begun.
"The idea we had was to play at the La Cartuja stadium," said Del Nido Carrasco. The Sevilla director expressed confidence that the regional administration will facilitate the process to build a new stadium, but the immediate step would be the temporary use of the Olympic venue. This possibility has been reinforced by statements from the president of the Royal Andalusian Football Federation (RFAF), Pedro Curtido, who opened the door to a shared-use scenario.
Curtido noted that La Cartuja, with a capacity of 72,000, is among the top three stadiums in Spain. "It could be the stadium of Sevilla or Betis, why not both?" asked the head of Andalusian football, though he clarified the final decision is not his to make. Betis has already been using La Cartuja since last season while renovating its Heliópolis stadium, and its president, Ángel Haro, has acknowledged that, although he sees it as difficult, Sevilla could rent the venue once they leave.
The debate over the future home comes as the team experiences an irregular start to the league. Sevilla sits fifth in La Liga with 13 points after seven matchdays, with a record of two wins, one draw, and two defeats in their last five games. The most recent was a tough 1-3 loss to Barcelona last Thursday. Focus now returns to competition with a trip to face Levante on October 12th, a rival currently battling to escape the relegation zone.
The club's roadmap involves maintaining sporting performance during a period of logistical transition. Del Nido Carrasco stressed they are not yet in the phase of executing the plan, but the RFAF's nod gives political viability to the La Cartuja option. The next step will be a formal meeting with the Junta to specify timelines and conditions for the possible temporary move.
